Welcome to Tara Hospital in the Home
The Hospital in the Home (HITH) service is an innovative new service that was launched by the HSE in early 2007. The service will receive patients between the hours of 8am and 10pm, seven days a week.
Who can receive treatment?
The Hospital in the Home Service (HITH) is available free of charge to all patients deemed suitable.
The HITH service is available to patients of the 6 participating Dublin hospitals and the patients of General Practitioners residing in Dublin City & County. These patients must meet the following criteria:
- Assessed as being clinically suitable as per attached protocols.
- Has appropriate support in the home.
- Has a suitable home environment (accessible by the HITH teams).
- Has consented to be treated in the HITH programme.
- Is over 16 years of age, is resident in Dublin city or county.
A wide range of conditions and treatments can be treated through HITH; initially the HSE HITH service will provide treatment for exacerbations of COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) and uncomplicated Pneumonias. As the service develops conditions such as Cellulitis, Urinary Tract or Respiratory Tract Infections, and Anti Coagulation management will be considered for inclusion in the programme.
